Goin' to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come

Tonight we leave for KC to spend a fun filled weekend with shores. We are planning on leaving promptly at 3pm in order to make it to the expo.. The expo that my precious husband has geeked out on! He is so excited about it, all week I have heard, “maybe I’ll see something at the expo.” We are planning on meeting Andrea for dinner and getting to bed early. The race starts at 7am, but Kelly and I will be bright eyed at 5am ready to do our 5 prior to the race! I hope it works out as well as I want it to, I would hate to do badly! It is supposed to be FREEZING on Saturday morning!

I wanted running tights and a new sports bra, due to the fact that mine has left me with battle scars. Well I went on this Fabulous site and found some wonderful deals… So wonderful in fact that I almost don’t want to post it in fear that my bargains will be snatched up, but I have a giving heart so I will share!
Sportsbasement.com

They have amazing customer service too! The tights that I ordered for the race this weekend were out of stock, but they didn’t realize until after I placed my order. This sweet girl from there called me and walked me through all the other styles. The ones I wanted were more expensive than the original ones I purchased, so she told me she would honor the price that I paid and get them out to me that night! I was very impressed with them!

Well we are off to run in the Waddell & Reed race in KC. Please say prayers that we are injury free!

Learning to become a wife…

Yesterday I had to run at lunch because I had to go to young wives that night.
Well it was cold and rainy and I did not want to go.. but I was forced to by my own competitive spirit. I was so concerned that I would not run & Kelly would and I would be behind in my miles.. So I ran, I ran quickly too just to get it over with. I ran at work around the JBH track which has two hills and I had to run those 3 times! So I finished my 3 in 26:30 and that is pretty fast for me. ( Needless to say since Kelly knew what I ran in he HAS TO beat my time so he ran it in 23..show off! I knew I should have deleted my time!!)

Well Young Wives started at 6:30 and it was a PJ party! What is young wives you may ask? Well our church has a group of married women varying from 50-20 years of marital experience and they shower us with wisdom and knowledge of what they have learned over the years. It is wonderful! I love going, not only for the education that it brings to my marriage, but there is always really good food, and you get to really talk to other women about my age and get to know them better.

The PJ party was a huge success they did a great job blankets, pillows, hot chocolate, & best of all… We had breakfast for dinner! That is one of my favorite things to do is have breakfast for dinner. Waffles, breakfast casserole, and fruit…I ate way too much!

QUIT TIME- The lesson was good though we talked about quiet times- if we do them ourselves, if we do one with our husbands, if we do one with our children? THANKFULLY, I didn’t have to listen during the children part. But, they did bring up a really good point that I would have never thought about when it comes to having children. Kelly and I spend so much time together and we are able to give each other so much attention that when we do have kids it will be difficult for him to transition. I say him because usually when people have kids the mom becomes so focused on the child that they husband often falls to the background. I am very thankful to have this in my mind. Not that we are having kids right now, but I think that if I can remember that it will make the transition a better one.

BED TIME- Also, a topic that came up was bedtime. They mentioned something that made me think was how good it was for couples to go to bed at the same time. Shutting off the TV closing the door and just be together. Some of the ladies read a little bit before they go to bed, but either way having that alone time free of distractions is good to have. It makes me want to tell Kelly the only night it is not ok for mutual bedtime is Sunday and Monday.. I mean after all I am not a slave driver!!!

HABITS- This was one that we did last YW, but it was so good it still helps me. They talked about how each person brings in habits to the marriage, most of the time from their parents whether they be good or bad. It is then our job to communicate with each other about the things that bother us and what is the best compromise to fix them.. Here is mine..One of the ladies was talking about how annoyed she would get when her husband wouldn’t turn his shirts the right way. She hated having to turn them right side out to fold the. She was talking about how they would bicker about it… I had to pipe in on that one. I told her what I do, wash em’ however he took them off, then fold them however they come out of the dryer. That is how this girl does it. I figure if Kelly doesn’t care enough to take it off the right way, he won’t care enough the way they are folded. :) But it was also good to realize that he has emotional habits picked up as well. Which I wouldn’t have thought about that otherwise.

I thought I would share with ya’ll about what I learned yesterday!

Christmas as a Carlson

Every year Julie gets us matching Christmas pants...

I am an only child... an only child whose parents got divorced when I was 6.. So pretty much all i can remember is 4 different Christmas'. Mom, Dad, Grandma & Papa, and Mema & Pepa Christmas. Christmas was never really the same or filled with any annual traditions though. Their was never any real rules or a set way of doing things, it was just whatever fit in the schedule or worked best for the majority.... Oh but that beautiful Saturday on the 15th of April it all changed.... we are now entering....CHRISTMAS WITH THE CARLSON'S.

Let me just tell you that I could not have married in to a better family. Hands down, the best family. I thank God daily for blessing me with the Carlson's.
Now, having said that..I was not prepared for what was awaiting me that first Christmas. Kelly's mom has always been able to have all her (3) kids home for the holidays. Well this was one of those years where Christmas was on a Saturday, so there wasn't much time off, and Kelly's mom had just gone through to become a flight attendant, and she was stationed out of Houston. Bobby & Julie (my inlaws) are from AZ, Kurt and Kaylee (bro & sis-inlaw) live in Searcy, AR and go to HARDING UNIVERSITY, then we were in Dallas. So we all wanted to be with Bobby and Julie so to Houston we flew, by a Boeing 737 instead of the 8 tiny reindeer.
Well, the 4 carlson kids got to the airport by around 4 or 5, and B & J weren't due in until 11 or 12am, so then began the debacle of getting us home. We find this CRAZY cabbie guy who agrees to take us to our hotel. I will spare you all the conversations that we had with the cabbie, EXCEPT when the ONLY "attraction" he could point out to us was the triple X book-stores.
Next morning was Christmas Eve, we all spent the day at the Mall, in carlson style- doing Christmas shopping!! Finished it up with a Christmas Eve dinner at non other than.... The CheeseCake Factory!
We get back to the hotel with our stockings hung by the chimney with care, we we heard such a clatter, we all sprang to the room to see what was the matter.
Well Julie was called in to fly!! On Christmas morning.  So we improvised and opened our Christmas presents at 11 pm Christmas Eve.

The stocking is my Carlson stocking!
The tide to go, well we are just messy
the high five is because kelly & i are "team carlson"
and that... that is happy kaylee
The next morning we all decided that without her there we would rather just head home.. so we headed off to Dallas...
But, by the time we got home, it was dinner time and we realized that on our first Christmas together we didn't have any food in the house! We then proceeded to drive around Dallas for an hour only to settle on the only sensible choice for Christmas dinner.... IHOP other wise known as The International House of Pancakes! i can still remember what we ordered.. I got the the happy face pancakes with chocolate chips, and Kelly- the denver omelet.

Needless to say 4 year later we have had much better luck on being together and we are getting more and more traditions, but I will never forget my first Christmas as a Carlson

ONLY in Arkansas....

Old McDonald had a farm, and this afternoon-Kelly and I experienced all the animals on McDonald's farm...
It all started with a man named MIKE RUSH Kelly and I went to visit our favorite running coach last weekend to get some tips for our up coming runs. Mike suggested that we try running on the county roads.. they are dirt, nice n pretty, and not much traffic. So, Kelly and I set off for our afternoon run.
*side note we had tried to run on Saturday, our normal running day, but that didn't so much work out! There is a family that goes to church with us, the Townsand's, and they have a nephew that lives in OK, he is 19 working his way through college, and he was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer..the Dr.'s are not hopeful, so our church did a 24 hour prayer vigil. Kelly and I took the 5am shift thinking, "this will be great, we will pray for an hour then go and knock out our run before 9!" Well 5am is early and it was only a friged 40 degree's out at 6am, so we deicide to head for the house and just take a "baby nap" for an hour until it warms up! HA! 8:30am we finally got up and looked at each other only to say in unison, "I don't feel like running" So we went to garage sales instead!
Back to the old country road though, we get about 5 miles in ( we are only doing 12 this week cause we have the race next week-a whole nother side note!!!) and we hear this LOUD crash bang, look over and there are goats jumping off this metal pile. Not one, not two, but at LEAST 10-12 goats. So I am thinking ok, i can handle this and i begin to pick up the pace a little bit and move to the other side of the road as to not anger them.. well that didn't so much work and they started chasing us.. and let me tell you they are not slow...

I of course start to panic and pick up the pace a little more catching up to kelly. The ravenous beasts just keep coming. Then kelly starts thinking, should I tell her to climb a tree now as I attack them with rocks and sticks, or should we run a little faster and maybe they will get bored with us? Well after about of a mile of these things hot on our feet they were chased away by dogs.. WHICH leads me to my next thing, we got chased by dogs, I guess that no one sees the need these days to keep you animals contained? Needless to say we had to pick up the pace again in order to run away from these savage animals as well!
After that i was all sorts of worked up, and from that point on it was like I had an extreme case of paranoia! Even these stray cows that kept moving towards me along the road seemed to have a crazy look in their eyes.. i even had to move to the other side of the road again to get away from the hostile holsteins!

By this time, we have lost all sense of direction and can only see miles and miles of farms and smell miles and miles of manurer, so what do we do when we are lost? keep on going in the same direction! FINALLY we see some signs of civilization only to realize that we are about 8 miles away from our house...
So we finally gave in, went to the Centerton Inn and called for reinforcements.. Jimmy & Kelsey! They live in Centerton and were wiling to come and rescue us... Only after laughing hysterically at us!
So that is the end of Old McDonald's farm and the Carlson adventure....
*** oh the other side note... We are training for a marathon in December, December 5th actually at the Memphis St Jude. Well next week we are supposed to run 18 miles, so wanna know what we are doing to make sure and get our miles in? Oh we are gonna run 5 before the race even STARTS then finish er up with the 13.1 to make sure we get 18 for the day.. Dang.. i'm nervous just thinking about it!

its a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand

High school cars, you are never super careful with them, most of the time because you had this wild elaborate vision of somthing out of sweet 16 on MTV.. You have a huge party with lots of friends and a cake as tall as you are. Then as the party is winding down and you have just finished dancing to a romantic song with the love of your life. You go outside at sitting in the parking lot is.. a 1998 honda accord..(hey it is a dream and this was me dreaming big)
But sadly I got the go go gadget mobile, (very very long story) otherwise know as a 4 door 1990 saturn. This lasted me all of a year due to the fact that it already had close to 150,000 miles on it.
When I graduated I bought my mom's Ford Probe for the grand sum of $5,000. I drove this for most of my college life, until i wrecked it the summer before my jr year. I then purchased the malibu... and paid it off 2 years later-thank you JESUS & Dave Ramsey. But now that it has hit the 120,000 mile mark and we are getting to the child bearing years.. the FABULOUS Carlson Family (bobby and julie) offered us the option to purchase their cars.. a jeep grand cherokee, and an acura. SO HECK YES we took it!! We have been waiting for it for a while now and they picked it up YESTERDAY. I am so excited to have this i can not explain it enough!! I even went to the extreme to save it to the background of my computer!
Please se the picture below and share in my excitment!

Dear Santa....

So you know the grinch right.. the detestable character from Dr. Seuss who hates Christmas? well take that person and take it to the complete opposite end of the spectrum. That is my husband and that is how much he loves Christmas. We have been know in the almost 4 years of our marriage to bust out the tree in october. One year I think that we actually had the tree up at the same time that we were carving pumpkins! He loves"the holiday season"
So I was doing some blog stalking and found another blog that i love, http://redswriting.blogspot.com/2009/10/twoc-christmas-list.html
Well she is doing the twelve weeks of Christmas, and being in true Carlson form.. I am totally playing.
SO first post of the 12 weeks is my Christmas list:
Dear Santa,
I have been an ok girl-i mean why lie? I haven't been the best and i know that you have some sort of "hook up" and can find out all the things that I have done wrong, so in all honesty i have been an ok girl.
With that being said, I do think that i deserve points for honesty!
My sweet husband and i bought a house this year and there are several things that I would like for the house. These are in NO particular order.. just as they come to me!
1. a new front door ours is white-boring (no offense to anyone that has a white door) and it does not have a peep hole. This bothers me! Last night someone came by at 8pm and it was dark and we couldn't see who it was!
2. Tall hurricane vases.. i want to put things in them like candles then pour in candy corn for halloween, and cranberries for Christmas...
3. Sconces for the wall we have a large picture and I want them to go on the side of the painting.
4. PAINT- i want to paint the bathroom and two bedrooms
5. A new northface jacket, mine has seen better days
6. winter shirts. I just don't have enough winter shirts that look cute at work. I look like a frumpy mom and i hate it.
7. SPORTS BRA- my poor chest has literally been scared by the current sports bra, I guess some people are more likely to chaff as well as running for 3 hours at a time may attribute to this!
8. Kitchen table- we have a space in the kitchen that needs a table, just a two or 4 seater, but a table none the less
9. Bar stools- we have a bar, no stools-although target has some pretty cute ones i may have to purchase. Question-could you just register at places for your Christmas gifts??? I mean I truly think this could catch on!!!
10. running clothes- i need a cold weather jacket, some tights, and a SPORTS BRA!
11. one of those things that go over the toilet...? you know for tp, girl stuff and anything else i need to store?
12. a truck for the bathroom, like one of those that is long and deep that we could hide dirty clothes in and it still be in plain sight and look like a piece of decor..
13. Speakers/surround sound for our tv.
14. Charm for my charm bracelet
15. a printer- we do not have one! :(
I know that that sounds like a CRAZY amount of stuff, but you also have to remember that we don't shop during the year (thank you dave ramsey) but that also mean that my Christmas list is larger than average!
It is beginning to look at lot like Christmas....

"you are like martha stewart, BUT I am like the iron chef"

Crock pot chicken did change our life... so much so that last night Kelly who stated the fact that is the title of my post. wanted to alter it and get a little creative.
So here is how this goes:
4 pieces of chicken
1 cup of water
some fresh broccoli, carrots, and potatoes-sliced
some cavendar's and thyme
we cooked it on low for about 7-8 hours.
We added a little brown rice and some texas pete hot sauce and OH MY GOODNESS it was sooo good!!
This yet again proves the point that kelly is great at throwing things together and make them taste amazing! I on the other hand like to follow they recipe and make it exactly to the recipe!

First fridays, fall, and friends

So on Friday kelly and I did our rituatl, friday night is digorno pizza night. We started this about 2 months ago. At first we went to sam's (WE LOVE LOVE LOVE Sam's) and we would buy the 3 pack of cheese pizza and would put veggies on it. Then we switched to supreme this month. Anyway, we cook pizza every Friday night and that diminishes some serious tension for us in not having to plan dinner after a long week. Well the first friday of every month we go to first friday in Bentonville around the square. This month was Oktoberfest. They had rootbeer and brats and this guy from animal planet that was talking about training your dog. OF course we took Callaway and he strutted around the square like it was his backyard.
The reason for my long story we saw some LARPING!!! i was soooo sad that i forgot my carmera, but this is somewhat of a rendition of what was taking place. For those of you that do not know what LARPING it is live action role play. We first learned about it in the movie role models...fabulous!

So Saturday we got up and ran 16 miles. Kelly and I knew that KC was going to be hilly so we deicide to run in Fayetteville. Well we got up and headed out around 6, and Oh GEEZ was it cold. I think it took until mile 4 or 5 to get to a normal body temperature again!! We finished up and were pretty sleepy, but we had way to much to do. Saturday night we went over to carrie and phillip's house. They made steaks and the BEST cheesecake we have ever had!! I will be making it very soon..with a little twist! I will post! (which reminds me.. i totally forgot to take a pictre of the cake balls, but they were very good and a big hit

Sunday we had life groups and watched the poor cowboys lose yet again..Kelly was not a happy kid. Life groups were good we have decided to study the five love languages. I am very excited about this I think it will be good to learn from. I have found out several things that kelly and I are different in the way that we like to show love and like to be loved, so i will keep you posted on the lesson's.

Sweet Potato Luncheon

I am sure that most of you already know that I like to volunteer for things. I have a serious condition of ADHD and like to do as many things as possible as to not feel mundane or bored. Well I told the sweet lady that I work with this in hopes that whenever things come up I will be top of the list. Well that just so happened yesterday. Komen has a pink ribbon luncheon every year and this year since I have actually been hands on with things I really wanted to go! So, when I got the email asking if I want the tickets I jumped at the opportunity. I had 4 tickets, well with such short notice it seemed that no one could go. So my “cubbymate” Jenni agreed to go, unexcitedly I might add! But none the less she appeased me and accompanied me to the lunch, and I am so glad she did.
The original speaker was out with shingles so, Jill Connor Brown of, “The Sweet Potato Queens” spoke. SPQShe was awesome! I really do not know the last time I laughed that hard.. oh wait, yes I do the bachlorette weekend…other that that, it has been a while!
I liked her so much I told Kelly that I wanted to buy the book, he of course told me to rent it from the library.. I of course told him that is not helping JCB to make $!! So please see the link to her website and check her out!
Speaking of reading James Patterson is coming to NWA this weekend, and if givin the option I would leave my pinky toe on the steps of the John Q Hammond Center just to be able to get in and listen to him talk. I know I know I could be like every normal person and purchase a ticket, but they are 50 FLIPPIN’ DOLLARS! That kids, is NOT in the budget! So I will be pressed up against the back door hoping to catch a glimpse of him.. I love love love his books!!
Tomorrow is also food day at my place of employment. I transferred division in February, prior to my transfer I worked in HR for a year, and in that year we had ONE food day! ONE! Now I am not the fat kid that loves the food day, but with our group in HR I knew where the food was coming from and most of the people in my group were pretty good friends so I ate with a comfortable feeling. Well in my new division we have food day ALL the time, and unfortunately I never know who makes what! Well this time I have studied the list and taken stock of what I will and will not be eating!! I am making Cake balls… I know, they sound very weird, but from what I have seen in the past few months they are, “all the rage” cake balls!
After reading/stalking some other blogs I found a recipe and will be making them for food day tomorrow. I have decided to go with a funfetti (my favorite) cake with a rainbow chip icing with the white almond bark.. If I am feeling better tonight I will take pictures and show you all how well they turned out..
